Counseling for Children
What you can expect in a counseling session for your child
Beautiful Minds helps children make sense of what is going on in their minds, bodies, and lives. The goal of child counseling is to break down problems, into more manageable parts, so that the child can better understand and cope with them.
Individual therapy with a child provides a chance to discuss problems one-on-one with a therapist. Activities, role-play, and play materials may also be used during a counseling session. Talks and activities are based on the age, interest, and developmental level of your child.

Know when it's time for your child to see a therapist
Does your child cling to you desperately anytime you try to leave? Are they afraid to sleep in their own bed? Maybe they have difficulty making friends. Is your child aggressive and can’t seem to get along with peers? Or maybe he’s hyper, can’t sit still, and is always getting in trouble at school? Or she’s going through some life transitions like parents’ divorce or the loss of a loved one?
As a parent, you want nothing but health and happiness for your child, but sometimes situations occur that you can’t “fix” on your own. That is when it is best to lean on someone with expertise in the area. Children may not understand what has gone wrong, but they are aware when things are not right. A child’s response to a distressing or frightening experience will depend on a wide range of factors including their age, stage of development and personality, as well as the impact of the crisis on their parents, primary caregivers, or significant others. Your child may not react in the ways that you would expect.
We use therapeutic techniques such as Solution-Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (when developmentally appropriate) as well as incorporating play and empowering individuals by identifying their strengths.
We are here to help in any way we can. It may mean setting goals with your child, giving them tools to help cope, or a more in-depth dive into the child's issues, fears, and needs.
The main goal of child counseling is to use the expertise of a trained counselor to ease your concerns and help your child get the help they need to function properly. When a child’s social and emotional issues are left untreated, it can negatively impact their academic and developmental milestones.
We are here to help identify a child's issues and triggers, and help you as a parent work through those issues with your child.
Sessions for Children
We focus on understanding the parents/caregivers main concerns. We will help you understand what are the root causes of your child's problems and empower you in helping your child overcome them. No blame or shame. Only caring, attentive, support.
Children at these ages are able to participate actively in therapy. Caregiver participation is a vital element. Children are supported, encouraged, and feel genuinely cared for as we help them achieve their goals and the hopes their parents have for them.
